Hello and welcome to Inspired, a weekly email for my paid subscribers. In this series I want to explore topics which I hope might spark some inspiration for your own photography. I will talk about my thought process for creating images, both in the field and in post processing. This week I visited my local beach to further explore shooting with a shallow depth of field. I chose this beach because it is full of old sea defences. Wooden posts and concrete structures once designed to protect the shore now litter the beach in a haphazard jumble of man made debris. I brought with me a 24-70mm lens and a 70-200mm telephoto and my idea was to see how I could make elements relate to each other in a meaningful way by using a shallow depth of field.
