Inspired #42
The power of squares
Hello and welcome to Inspired, a weekly email for my paid subscribers. In this series I want to explore topics which I hope might spark some inspiration for your own photography. I will talk about my thought process for creating images, both in the field and in post processing. The posts will be linked in some way to the monthly challenges, hopefully giving you all lots of food for thought.
Back in the late 70’s when I was 10 years old I was given my first camera; a Kodak Instamatic 233 which used 126 colour film cartridges and produced square images. This was my introduction to photography and I began by seeing in squares.
Years later, as my love of landscape photography developed, I ditched the square format for 3:2 aspect ratios and 16:9 crops. However, recently, I have begun to embrace the square again and in this post I wanted to explain why.
