That's quite a project you've set yourself for this year Gill - but a rewarding one too and I hope it goes well for you. I'll look forward to seeing how it progresses over the year, it's always interesting to understand a photographers process when it comes to projects.
Thank you very much Lin - we will see how it goes. I always think there is loads of time to do things at the start of the year but time goes so fast. I do feel that I need a good project to keep my work fresh and relevant. 🙂
Good morning Gill and a belated new year to you. I love a project I’ve currently two on the go , they’re just a great way to motivate you to get out with the camera . I’m still waiting for the snow to hit here in the lakes so i can capture some winter images.
Happy New Year Joy and thank you for your comments. I agree with you - I love a project too and definitely find them a good way to motivate and inspire my work. Good luck with your projects and I hope you see some snow soon.
Glad you are feeling better after a rotten Christmas.
There are some great ideas here. I have set out to improve my landscape photography this year, a root and branch exercise encompassing composition, front-to-back sharpness, impact and appropriate post-processing. It will involve learning how to 'see' things better when I am out and about, knowing which are the optimum settings for my camera and each lens, looking for angles and learning more about my editing software. I am doing this in the form of a Project 52: one photo a week that shows a step forward or illustrates a problem with which I can seek help.
My goal is to feel that I am a competent landscape photographer by the end of the year: at the moment, I feel it is the weakest genre of those that I enjoy, and I really need to do something about it. As you say, having a purpose when you go out with the camera really does help to focus the mind and make you think differently. Ultimately I want to be able to enjoy landscape photography instead of finding it frustrating.
I think your goal for this year is really commendable and I love the idea of your 52 project. I think just getting out regularly will definitely help. I also feel that 'learning how to see' and translate that into a good composition is the most important skill to practice. That is the thing that really helped me and is the biggest difference between my shots today and those I took 20 years ago.
Good luck with it all and I look forward to following your journey. 🙂
Thank you for your comments Davor. I think we all approach photography differently but I find I need a project or a focus to give some meaning to my work. I always create better images that way, but that may just be how I like to work. 🙂
I understand you, Gill, and I believe it’s a strategically good decision. My only issue is that I find it hard to give up other things at the same time.
I hope you’re recovering from the flu Gill. The new project sounds exciting and your ideas on other mini projects are very useful thanks. I’m looking forward to seeing the new book. I’ve started reading through “Connections”, which is excellent. I’m loving the diversity of the stories and images, all linked together by Suffolk.
Thank you so much David, I am glad you are enjoying the book. All the stories are quite different so I think that keeps it interesting.
I'm recovering from the flu slowly, and have been out a few times in the snow - I have waited so long for these conditions I'm not going to let the flu beat me! 😆

Beautiful!
Thank you very much Peggy.
Interesting ideas you mentioned here. I don't have any of such projects, but maybe it would be wise to implement something. I just go out and shoot.

Thank you very much Chris. I am on the mend, but have a horrible cough I can't shift. I'm still enjoying the snow though. 😆
