Your writing resonated with me in lots of ways. I love Penmon and Anglesey, have fond memories of childhood there and one of my sons had wedding photos taken at Penmon.

I am constantly looking around my locale for different angles , 2 locals to be honest, Wirral and Edinburgh. One offers coastal scenes and wading birds, the other beautiful architecture and people watching. But my project for 2024 is to photograph a wood we bought last January in the Scottish Borders, noticing the seasons and giving my attention to any changes throughout the seasons much like "The Forest Unseen". Thank you for sharing

Thank you very much Cath, I am glad you enjoyed the post.

I really enjoy local projects and it is lovely that you have such diverse places to explore. The woodland sounds amazing and I look forward to hearing more about it as your project unfolds. 🙂

Gill, I love the idea of exploring your local landscape and delving deeper into where you feel more connected. It inspires me to think differently about my own work. Happy New Year!

Thank you very much Ana, I am glad you enjoyed the post.

I love exploring locally - I always feel I have a better connection to place and can then delve a little deeper because I understand the landscape better.

I look forward to following your journey in 2024 - Happy New Year.

A great set of images Gill – I particularly like the black and white shots. I too enjoy Adrian Vila’s work - I like the fact that he looks to set the mood and create his own style and interpretation of a scene rather than focussing on the 'rules' of photography. I find working locally helps me to get to know a location well and makes it so much easier to build my own interpretation. Good luck with your new local project – I look forward to seeing the results!

Thank you very much Lin for your kind comments.

I love Adrians work and how he sees the world - his compositions are always interesting and I think there is always something to learn from them.

I hope you will enjoy following along as my local project takes shape. 🙂

Like you, I get most pleasure from making images in my local area. I love to find new challenges in out of the way places and places where others might not see an image.

I also love watching Adrian Vila, he finds superb unusual images, even from his car window at times.

I've been to all those places in Snowdonia and they are beautiful but as you suggest it's difficult to feel a connection-your images were beautiful and I love the b&w.

Thank you very much Peter for your kind comments.

I loved visiting Wales but I did struggle at times. Keeping things local is still challenging but I have a much better idea of what I want to convey because I know the landscape so well. I am even enjoying the stormy weather we have been having lately! 🙂

A beautiful set of images Gill - you certainly made the most of the gaps in the weather. As they say - necessity is the mother of invention.

Thanks for a thought provoking read Gill-the weather is the challenge and joy for landscape photographers-I felt the same frustration over Christmas in Co.Fermanagh when it rained all day but one -it was cold and wet and in the end I resorted to ICM and telephoto shots of the reeds in the lake -serendipity is a friend too but you have to be out there with a camera willing to make the effort ...the pub can wait !

Your images both black and white and colour were amazing and worth the effort

Thank you very much Len for your kind comments. I can sympathise with your Ireland experience, but being adaptable really helps. I hope you were pleased with your ICM shots.

Despite my grumpiness with the rain it really does pay to get out in bad weather - I definitely enjoyed taking images that I wouldn't have made otherwise.

Happy New Year Gill, the images are just fabulous especially those B&W I love so. A very insightful and relatable account in how expectations can change direction and loving the sound of the local project.

I look forward to seeing you this year and hearing all about that sizable Christmas dinner.

Thank you very much Ian, I'm glad you enjoyed the black and white images.

Christmas dinner in a van wasn't traditional but it was still good 🙂

The rain may be challenging to shoot in but it definitely provides mood and atmosphere which is always worth getting wet for! 🙂

Happy New Year, Gill. Your Wales photos do not convey the struggles you encountered to my way of thinking. Beautiful and mysterious! I look forward to hearing more about your 2024 project.

Happy New Year Sian and thank you so much for your kind comments. I definitely struggled in Wales but it was nice to come home with some images even if they weren't what I envisaged when I set out! 🙂

Happy New Year Gill. Despite the weather I think you’ve got some lovely images there. “Views from Rhaeadr Ogwen” has a fantastic winter feel and the Tryfan shot is also beautiful. The black & white images are very atmospheric and I can see your style in them.

Happy New Year David and thank you very much for your kind moments. Despite the weather I quite liked some of the shots I took in Wales but I guess I struggled so much because I allowed myself to envisage images before I went, which was definitely not good for my creativity! 🙂
