I am also, most definitely, a morning person. Nothing better than watching the world wake up. Absolutely love the textures in the beach from your second trip - beautiful images Gill
Beautiful images Gill, I particularly like the one taken down on the creek of the sandbanks - it looks like a painting to me and very otherworldly. I'm not a natural early morning person but when I do get out for the dawn it is always worth it, for the peace as much as the creative potential.
Thank you so much Lin. I always think fog makes the landscape look otherworldly, particularly the mud which I think looks quite beautiful in the soft light.
I love mornings and agree with you about the peace - it is my favourite time of day.
I love the slightly otherworldly colours and now know that it sometimes pays to turn my back on the blindingly obvious. Actually, I could use that advice for more than photography.
What an interesting and useful read Gill. It’s so easy to just aim at the sun for sunrises or sunsets, but you’ve definitely sold the benefits of turning the camera elsewhere. Lovely images as always, I particularly like “High & Dry” - great subject and lovely light. Unfortunately I usually struggle to get up early enough to catch the worm, but am certainly not an owl. Don’t think there is a bird that describes this 😂!
Thank you very much David, I am glad you found the blog interesting.
Regardless of whether you are an owl or a lark looking around to see what the light is doing will always give some alternative options to the obvious. Unfortunately I can't think of a good middle of the day bird! 😆
What a great explanation of the types of clouds that make for a colorful sunrise! This is something that has been on my list of things to learn more about. And, I've never heard the term 'Belt of Venus' but I am very familiar with what you described. Thanks!
That was a total wonderful read I was taken to your morning walks in a number of ways very inspiring and what beautiful conditions trying to find the balance of where to go is the hardest decision but to go and explore
Thank you very much Sian, I am glad you enjoyed the post. It's always good to look in the opposite direction as sometimes this can produce the most interesting results.
Gill, thank you for another Monday morning wake up! Interesting article and images, having been retired for a decade or so, I am certainly moving more toward an owl, though I do appreciate your observations of a lark!
I agree, it can be a challenge to get up for a sunrise but I have never regretted it yet - even if the photography is not that great the experience always makes it worth while.

Thank you so much James and I agree - mornings are definitely the best time of day 🙂

I love the early mornings for the peacefulness and quietness they offer. A new start. Everything seems possible.
You captured the light and mood of these scenes so well! Fabulous!
I love to walk in the woods in the early morning when no-one else is around. Best way to connect with nature and myself! 🌿💚
Thank you very much Suzanne for your kind comments.
Early mornings are definitely my favourite time of day and like you I find a walk at that time a wonderful way to connect with nature and self.

Thank you so much Pat, I am glad you enjoyed the blog.
Exploring is always fun and I like to try different places at different times of the day just to mix things up a little bit.
Thank you Gill. Very inspirational! I always marvel at the colours I see in the east at sunset where I live (the opposite viewpoint isn’t so great).

Thanks for a lovely article. I'm inspired to try a some dawn photography when I'm by the sea in Orkney next week.

I hope you have a lovely time in Orkney - I am sure the sunrises will be worthwhile.
