Beautiful flower images Gill, with some lovely soft editing. In the end it's a numbers game - the more time in the field, the more you see that inspires (one inspired session out of two is pretty good going!).

Thank you very much James, I am glad you enjoyed them. You are right, getting out regularly is the best way to nurture creativity, although sometimes I am not very good at taking my own advice 😆

Lovely set of images Gill; the first one of poppies is a delight that stopped me in my tracks. It’s funny isn’t it— as soon as we pack expectation in our camera bag we invariably end up disappointed. We have an outcome in mind, and process however enjoyable leaves us feeling deflated. I’m glad your evening was followed by unforeseen treasures.

Thank you so much Michela, I am glad you enjoyed them. I always find I make better images when I just react to something. I should have learned by now not to plan things 🙂

Beautiful images, Gill! So much truth in your words. I can relate to “the pressure to produce isn’t a good place”…

Beautiful images to go alongside your words this week Gill - and your words resonate so much! I've learned the hard way over time not to have expectations or pre-plan images, as so often it doesn't work out the way I'd envisaged. I much prefer to photograph what shows itself to me when I'm out with my camera - a bit like that deer did to you... what a wonderful shot!

Thank you Lin. I am much better at reacting to a scene than planning images - I am always much less satisfied with these. Moments like the deer in the flowers also bring so much joy and these become the images that have the most meaning.

Lovely! And so heartening. The joy of pure discovery and experiment is so much lighter than the pressure to create. Thank you for these beautiful images.

The poppy images are beautiful. I especially like the first and last, the slightly wider angle shots.

Those cloud banks at sunset seem to happen so often, they are very frustrating! I've had them recently as far apart as Dorset and Shetland!

Trips that didn't pan out as I'd like have happened to me more times that I care to admit. When it does unfold that way, I try hard to think creatively and make the best of what conditions I have. Still, that's not very inspiring and I do enjoy just going for a walk and being open to what I find.

Those flowers are great, but that photo of the deer in amongst them is outstanding!

Thank you very much Erik. I am glad you enjoyed the images.

I think the frustrations of failed trips are just part of the journey, but however hard I try I still find them disappointing.

Love the descriptive words on the journey of your time out, the images complemented them perfectly. "Failure" is very much part of my learning curve, something to expect and embrace I think.

Wonderful words and shots, as always Gill. This really resonated with me, as I have transitioned to a more “off-the-cuff” approach to my photography in the last 12 months. There is nothing I find more inspirational than exploring new places with my camera. Yes I go places with shots in mind but I find my best work comes from those unplanned encounters.

Poppy love! Great images, also like the deer, not necessarily in the head lights!😅 Wish I had seen your Shingle Street shell star before our recent walk, I just got a close up from the other direction.

With regard to failures, mine seems to be inbthe head, I have become more comfortable with longer focal lengths, especially my 45 to 150 zoom (90 to 300 equivalent) I keep trying the 14 fixed (28 equivalent) but often the images are not what I like, certainly more work required there!😀

I think new lenses take a bit of getting used to and often require several trips out to get a feel for what they can do. Failures are just part of the learning process. 🙂

I am learning to be less disappointed or frustrated if I cannot or do not get that ‘portfolio’ shot on a trip out. It really is more ‘about the journey, not the destination as the saying goes.

Photography has afforded me sights and experiences that I probably would not have had otherwise.
