An interesting post Gill - I hadn't come across the term mudstone before. We have similar formations on the south east coast that I've always considered as rock...now I know what it is! I'd not come across Simon Booth before - I like his approach and his latest video is an excellent example of what you talk about here so thank you .
Thank you very much Lin, I am glad you enjoyed the post. Simon has a fantastic ability to make tiny inconsequential scenes look interesting - I always find it inspiring to watch his videos.
Thank you very much Ronald for your comments. The mud in that image was very soft and slippery, I am surprised it doesn't get washed away. I think it is this smoothness that gives it an artificial appearance.
Another inspirational read thanks Gill with some beautiful images. We’re lucky to have a number of estuaries in our wider area and I’m always surprised by the reflections from the mud when the tide is out at Mersea Island for example. Thanks for the introduction to Simon’s channel - he also has so many creative ideas to learn from!
Thank you very much David, I am glad you enjoyed the post. I think living on the East coast we have to learn to love photographing the mud - it has such a big influence on the character of the place.
Thank you very much Ian, I am glad you enjoyed the words and images. I agree with you about Simon Booth, he is definitely an inspiration in creating beauty from the mundane.
Thank you for that interesting illustration , especially the b/w versions , too. We live surrounded by fields, and it's true, there are never two days the same....

Beautiful photos and a great read.
Thank you very much Mark, I am glad you enjoyed it.
Really nice photos and interesting topic! Mudstone at Dawn looks like the mud is some sort of rubbery substance.

Extraordinary read Gill and such beautiful image's too. As mentioned i love the word mundane, it even sounds earthly.
As for Simon Booth he can pull a real beauty from the largest area of mundanes.

This is probably the prettiest mud I have ever seen!
Thank you very much Susanne. I love the way the coloured light reflects in the mud, it can certainly make it appear beautiful.
The quote in the end is outstanding! Your photos are mesmerizing, as always!
The questions you pose about light and composition are incredibly valuable. I think they will add a lot to my photography! Thank you!
Thank you very much Erik, thats really kind of you. I am glad you enjoyed the post.
