You definitely did find beauty Gill, the images are excellent. The colours are beautiful. I think we can find something

appealing in alot of things that we wouldn't normally photograph.

Thank you very much Maria. You are definitely right, there are possible photos everywhere and beauty in all sorts of things that don't initially seem attractive. I guess it all comes down to observation and being inspired. 🙂

I love how you have captured natural processes as they impose themselves on manmade structures - the natural processes of rusting, corroding to the point of leakage, breaking down, all suggest dynamic interplay between human and nature, and I love how you capture it at a super micro-level.

These abstracts are really very beautiful, the colours in that light are gorgeous, and the focus on details really works, especially as a series.

Lovely images, beautiful colours and I love the 2018 panel too! I actually think the pebbles in the bottom centre image are what really make the panel work so I look forward to seeing how you decide to link the steel with the moving water. I think it's true that if we take time to focus on something we can see more of interest and photographic potential in it.

Thank you very much Sarah. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on my panel and agree with you about the shingle at the bottom. My ideas for this project have changed a little as I have been collating the images and I think I almost have a small body of work that I am happy with. Hopefully you will find it interesting when you read part 2. 🙂

Well, if you can come home with a dozen or so 'keepers', I think these mundane or ugly things are not that of a bad subject to photograph. I really like this kind of abstract photography 👌

I love these images Gill - I have to agree that we can find beauty wherever we focus our attention - the more rust the more character! Dungeness is a case in point, a fishing boat graveyard, rusted old tin sheds and a nuclear power station - I've returned there many times and always find something new and quite beautiful in the decaying debris on the beach. Your images have made me want to return yet again!

Thank you very much Lin, I am glad the images have inspired you. Dungeness is an amazing place, although I have never photographed there, I can understand its fascination. There is always something interesting to be found in places like that.

I love the textures and colours of these images and the relationship of life giving water that also causes the decay.

Thank you very much for your comments Anne. I agree the contrast between the life giving water and the decay is a lovely one to explore. 🙂

Gill, what an imaginative project and so, so different yet appealing particularly to photographers such as me who need to find new subjects. Your collection of photos are quite beautiful. I need to look harder when I am out in the future.

Fantastic images Gill and just goes to prove there are photographic opportunities everywhere. I remember those from the group photo walk at Bawdsey that you ran. Wonderful colours, patterns and contrasts and I’m looking forward to part 2.

Thank you very much David. I have been fascinated by the sheet piling at Bawdsey for a while, the colours and patterns are amazing and I love how its possible to be inspired by some rusty old metal! Hopefully that doesn't make me too strange! 😆

Beautiful pictures and the ones featuring the water are amazing. I would love to be able to translate these to fabric although I doubt it would do them justice, just beautiful to look at.

Thank you very much Barbara. I loved photographing the water as I found the colours reflected through it really beautiful. I am not sure how it would translate to fabric though as that is something I have no experience in 🙂

I, personally, love and am drawn to rusty metal for some reason. You found and captured some lovely elements and shapes within the weathering old metal and your images are lovely. Thanks for showing us a different “side” of your beach.

A wonderful example of seeing possibilities that present themselves in the most unlikely of places Gill. An example to us all. As a lover of abstract photography I'm particularly drawn to these images, in fact I may even temporarily abandon my monochrome preference and have a go at colour! Thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you very much for your comments Mick. I really enjoyed making these images out of something that isn't traditionally beautiful and loved the abstract results that I was able to get with the 70-200mm lens. I hope you enjoy the challenge if you decide to have a go with some colour. 🙂

Another great inspiring read coupled with some stunning and interesting images! Looking forward to part two, and a potential preview of the zine. Looking deeper at some of the images, I think that a number would make very nice cards, greeting or otherwise!😀
